October's Wine Soiree

Sunday, October 22, 2017

Ghoulish Reds and Ghostly Whites was the theme for today's gathering. That meant anything and that is what we got. The host had requested costumes for people and wine bottles along with themed food dishes because of it being the Halloween "season".

So it ended up being half and half of those in attendance. Prizes were given for each category. If you are "into it" it is your type of event. And if you are a non-conformist like me you ignore it. Although I will say that Henry's "wine bottle costume" was great. It was hand made instead of "bought". He used a lime for a head, cut a mouth in and put something red inside to make a tongue. Used screws for eyes, wire for "hair", jade plant for arms and a huge nail at the top of the head that went inside the wine bottle for stability.  Looked "frankensteinish"  and was quite creative.

We had a really mixed bag of wine but a few stood out. I brought a Sekthaus Raumland Cuvee Marie-Luise Brut which was welcomed on this extremely hot day.

Other notable wines were 1997 Estancia Meritage,  2012 Alpha Omega II and a 2014 Jean Marie Briolird, 1st Cru, Chablis.
